A leader in providing affordable healthcare and dental coverage since 1929, BlueCross BlueShield today insures one in three Americans in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico.

At Fairfax Dental Group, we’re proudly in-network with BlueCross BlueShield, a partnership that allows us to pre-negotiate affordable dental solutions and pass them along to members just like you.

BlueCross BlueShield Coverage Availability & Fees

A man paying for dental treatment

Although you may have the same reliable BlueCross BlueShield dental insurance as your neighbor, coverage can vary from plan to plan, even if they’re provided by the same employer or agency.

With PPO plans, you can visit both in-network and out-of-network dentists, but you’ll save more money when you visit an in-network dentist.

In most cases, PPO plans will feature some or all of the following terms:

Deductible – This is the dollar amount you’ll need to pay ‘out of pocket’ before your full coverage is available. In most cases, biannual exams and cleanings and annual X-rays are not included in your deductible.

Annual Maximum – This is the most amount of coverage your dental insurance company will extend during a given year and is typically a specific dollar amount.

Waiting Period – This is how long it will take for your dental insurance benefits to become fully available. It can range anywhere from one to two weeks after your enrollment date to longer, depending on your plan.

In most cases, PPO plans do have slightly higher premiums, but these are generally in exchange for more affordable terms, such as:

  • 100% of the cost of two exams and cleanings each year.
  • 80% of the costs of “minor” procedures.
  • 50% of the costs of “major” procedures.

Please note that the definition of both “minor” and "major" procedures can vary, so be sure to verify your coverage prior to treatment. If you need assistance with this, our friendly dental insurance team is glad to help!

For HMO Plans, you will only receive coverage when you choose an in-network dentist, and you may be required to select a primary dental care provider. However, HMOs typically offer lower premiums, no deductibles, no annual maximums, and lower copays.

The Benefits of Seeing an In-Network Dentist

In addition to saving money on a variety of important oral health treatments, there are many important benefits to seeing a dentist who is in-network with BlueCross BlueShield. At Fairfax Dental Group, being in-network means we can easily help you navigate the terms of your coverage, file your claims on your behalf, and even provide you with the maximum amount of coverage allowed by your plan. In fact, if you’d like to know in advance how much coverage you can expect at your upcoming treatment, don’t hesitate to contact your BlueCross BlueShield dentist in Fairfax with your insurance information and we’ll be happy to give you a quote!

We are located in the Yorktown 50 Building, within walking distance of the Mosaic District.
