Tooth-Colored Fillings – Fairfax, VA

Creating Gorgeous Smiles Conservatively

A tooth-colored filling is an alternative to the traditional silver, or amalgam, fillings that are highly visible against your surrounding tooth enamel. This option is more conservative and natural-looking than a metal filling, and the biocompatible resin is also less likely to expand and contract in response to temperature changes. This helps keep the surrounding tooth enamel healthier over the lifetime of the filling. Plus, there is also no danger of mercury exposure with tooth-colored fillings in Fairfax, VA!

What is the Procedure Like?

As with any dental treatment, the first step will involve Dr. Young or Dr. Ayati giving you an oral exam so they can learn about the current state of your dental health. If they decide that you need a tooth-colored filling (likely for small cavity treatment), they will start the process by determining the color of your enamel so they can make sure the resin matches it.

After this, they will gently numb the area they intend to treat and remove any decayed or damaged portion of your tooth. Then, they will apply the color-matched resin to the area to replace the lost structure. After contouring it to make sure the filling doesn’t affect your bite alignment, they’ll harden the material using a special curing light. Your dentist will check your bite one more time, and then you’ll be on your way! Typically, the entire procedure can be completed in just one appointment.
